The walkie talkie is a popular choice when teamwork and coordination require communication without smartphones. Two-way radios are portable and allow hand-free communication. Many companies do not allow employees to use their personal phones during working hours and therefore radio-based communication among team members on the field is an efficient way. However, not all circumstances are the same, and not all businesses have the same communication needs. Therefore, many vendors dealing with walkie talkies allow you to buy or rent walkie talkies.
Buying a Walkie Talkie Vs Renting A Walkie Talkie
Whether renting or buying a walkie talkie is a more suitable option for you may seem an easy choice, but that is not always the case. Obviously, if you need to use walkie talkie sets on a regular basis for a longer time period, it is sensible to buy rather than rent. Public safety offices, event management businesses always buy walkie talkies and have the license in their name because this is the requirement for their business. It is sensible to rent a walkie talkie if it’s a once-in-a-lifetime need like events, job assignments, that need around 3-6 months to complete.
But what if you are a company that will need walkie talkies only for annual ceremonies, annual field trip or sports event. Do you buy your own walkie talkies, their accessories get a license, and dedicate a storage space just so you can take them out once or twice a year? You will also have to deal with maintenance and replacement in case of any damage. Would that be really cost-effective?
On the other hand, if you rent a walkie talkie once or twice a year, you will not have to worry about the license, storage or maintenance. You can also rent the accessories for walkie talkies. But in the long run, paying rent for the several walkie talkies each year, which comes close to the price of buying the cheapest walkie talkies in the market may seem expensive or at least not-so cost-effective.
Looking at things this way is comparing apples with oranges. There are a wide range and variety of walkie talkies available in the market from analogous to digital and even sim card enabled. Extra features like GPS tracking and a longer-lasting battery. You will never be able to purchase the same quality walkie talkie in the cost of renting it. That’s common sense and basic logic. Purchasing poor quality walkie talkies will not give you some experience and quality connection as hiring good quality walkie talkies. You will also need to consider your need for coverage area, battery timing, channels, connection quality in addition to the price. Only then you can correctly assess if your choice is cost-effective or not.
